Constantinos Cartalis

Constantinos Cartalis is a Professor of Environmental and Climate Physics and Director of the Laboratory of Environmental Physics–Meteorology at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Greece. His research focuses on climate vulnerability and risk across multiple sectors, including urban areas, tourism, forests, the natural environment, and cultural heritage. He also works on integrating climate change considerations into territorial and urban planning.

He serves as a Lead Author for the IPCC Working Group II Seventh Assessment Report (AR7), contributing to Chapter 18 on Adaptation of Human Settlements, Infrastructure, and Industry, as well as to the Cross-Chapter Paper on Mediterranean-Type Climates. He is also a member of the Greek Scientific Committee on Climate Change.

Constantinos Cartalis has served as Chairman of the Environment Committee of the Greek Parliament and as an expert for the European Commission’s Mission Assembly for Climate-Neutral Cities. He has also been a member of the Executive Bureau of the UNFCCC Subsidiary Body for Implementation under the Paris Agreement and has participated in the UNFCCC (UAE–Belém) Expert Group on Indicators.

He holds a PhD in Atmospheric Science, along with a Master’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, both from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor (USA).
