As an independent body dedicated to providing the European Union (EU) with scientific knowledge and advice on climate change, the Advisory Board will continue to focus on critical areas of mitigation and adaptation in its 2025 work programme.
In 2025, the Advisory Board will provide recommendations to support EU climate policy, focusing on the following key areas:
- Scaling up carbon dioxide removals in the EU:
The Advisory Board will publish a report exploring options for scaling up carbon dioxide removals in the EU, considering the respective costs, risks, and opportunities. This assessment will cover both carbon sinks in the LULUCF sector and technological solutions.
- Strengthening climate mitigation and resilience in EU agriculture:
The Advisory Board’s assessment will examine potential mitigation pathways in agriculture, including their contributions to greenhouse gas emission reductions and removals, as well as their links to adaptation and resilience to climate change.
- Climate adaptation and resilience:
The Advisory Board will deliver a science-based analysis on strengthening climate adaptation and resilience within the framework of the European Climate Law. Additionally, it will evaluate the current policy framework and provide recommendations aimed at enhancing the EU’s adaptive capacity, improving resilience, and reducing vulnerability to climate change.
