On 10 December, the European Scientific Advisory Board on Climate Change will host a side event at the United Nations Climate Conference (COP28) in Dubai. The event will be broadcasted live online, focusing on the theme: "Independent Climate Councils, Stocktaking, and Supporting Further Climate Action."

COP28 provides nations with the first opportunity to review and take stock of the Paris Agreement through the Global Stocktake. The Global Stocktake asks countries: "Where are we? Where do we want to go? And how do we get there?"

In a growing number of countries, independent climate councils are playing an important role in addressing these questions and informing national climate policy debates at the national level by monitoring progress towards climate objectives, identifying needs and gaps, and providing scientific advice on possible actions and opportunities to meet climate targets.

In this event, guests from the European Scientific Advisory Board on Climate Change and national climate councils around the world will share their experiences in supporting ambitious climate action at the national level and discuss how they can support further action following COP28 and the conclusion of the first Global Stocktake.

COP28 delegates can attend in-person at the EU Pavilion on Sunday 10 December from 18:30 to 20:00 local time (15:30-17:00 Central European Time). The event will also be broadcast live online, with the possibility to ask questions via Slido.
